Pack 122 was established over 50 years ago and has been serving Avon’s boys continuously since that time. The Pack expects to earn the Gold Level Journey to Excellence Award for 2011.  This award recognizes the Pack’s level of providing a quality program.

We enjoy a tradition of community service. Several years ago, we founded the Avon Clean-up Day, which now includes representatives from other Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Girl Scouts too. Each spring we pick up garbage along the Town’s bike trails, gather bags of trash from Fisher’s Meadow and Sperry Park, and clean up other Town locations. We also have been regular contributors to Gifts of Love and other local charities. We participate in the Scouting-For-Food program, collecting nonperishable food items for the local food banks and we send holiday cards to our local military personnel serving in foreign lands. We regularly march in the Town’s Memorial Day Parade and spread holiday cheer at local retirement communities.

We have strong ties to our Pack sponsor, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, and our volunteer firefighters often partake of Pack activities. We also have strong ties to the Avon Police Department. Our boys learn about the helpful role our officers play in our lives and regularly visit the Police Station to learn about crime-fighting and crime-solving techniques.

Our Pack has taken trips inside and outside of Connecticut that are both educational and fun. We have spent the night at Project Oceanology at UCONN’s Avery Point campus for their “Ultimate Ocean Adventure”. Stayed aboard the WWII battleship U.S.S. Massachusetts, a floating museum at Battleship Cove in Fall River and spent the night in the Boston Museum of Science. Two years ago we “Slept with the Sharks” at the Norwalk Maritime Museum and last year Pack 122 spent an “OverKnight” at Higgins Armory in Worcester, MA.

Each summer our Pack sends scouts to overnight camp at Camp Tadma in Bozrah, Connecticut and to day camp at Camp Workcoeman in Winsted, Connecticut.  Our experience shows that attending camp is not only fun but it also helps instill scouting's values in our boys.

Closer to home, we have camped out at Alsop Meadows and Huckleberry Hill in Avon, at the Governor’s Horse Guard, and at the Science Center of Connecticut.  Our Pack attends Rock Cats baseball games and Connecticut Whale hockey games.  We also have monthly Pack hikes on various trails in Avon and other great outdoor locations.

Our Pack is strong, in large part due to our boys, their adult leaders, and the active participation of adult volunteers.
